Bennington County: The Bennington County Sheriff's Department and local municipal police departments (ex: Bennington PD or Manchester PD) do not run a formalized, automated daily call system like Windham County Sheriff's Office, but they frequently perform individual welfare checks upon request.​

 

Requesting a Standard, Single Welfare Check

If you are worried about a family member, neighbor, or vulnerable adult because you cannot reach them, any local law enforcement agency covering that address will conduct a physical welfare check. You must call the non-emergency line for the specific agency handling that town:

Non-Police Alternates for Ongoing Care

If the concern is related to ongoing self-neglect, isolation, or a need for community support rather than an immediate safety check, you can leverage local social services:

• Adult Protective Services (APS): Call 1-800-564-1612 (for support for olde adults with long-term vulnerabilities, safety planning, or checking on an older adult's wellbeing, contact the Vermont)

• Meals on Wheels Care Checks: Organizations providing senior meals in Southern Vermont (ex: Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging) double as visual wellness checks. Drivers are trained to report to nutrition staff or emergency services if a client does not answer the door for a scheduled delivery.
